Importing from a previous system
Importing contacts or matters from a CSV file - upload, map columns, dry run, then a confirmed apply.
For: Owner
On this page
To bring contacts or matters from a previous system, import a CSV file. The import never writes anything until you have seen a dry run and confirmed it.
You need import permission (Firm owner or Firm administrator).
Import a file
- Open Integrations → Imports and choose Import contacts or matters from CSV. A template file is available to start from.
- Upload the file. Files are limited to 10 MB and 50,000 rows by default.
- Map columns: match each column to a LegalBook field.
- Dry run. LegalBook checks every row and reports what would be created, matched and skipped, and the errors row by row. Nothing is written. Download the errors as CSV to fix them.
- Apply. Type the number of rows to confirm, and sign in again when asked.
Each row is written through the normal LegalBook rules, including duplicate checks: a row that matches an existing person is matched rather than duplicated, and an ambiguous match opens a review.
Cells that look like spreadsheet formulas are neutralised, so an error report opened in a spreadsheet cannot run anything.
