Notifications and alerts

Personal notification preferences, quiet hours and digests, the firm's escalation chains, and operational alerts.

For: OwnerAttorneyStaff

On this page

LegalBook turns what happens in the firm into the right message for the right person on the right channel, pages people through escalation chains until someone acknowledges, and keeps operational alerts with acknowledgements and notes.

Channels

  • In app: the notification center and the bell.
  • Push: a short title through your LegalBook account's notification inbox.
  • Email.
  • Text message (for staff paging and client reminders; live texting is not available yet).
  • Client portal, for clients.
  • Incident channels: Slack, Microsoft Teams or a signed webhook for firm-wide operational alerts.

By default, messages outside LegalBook carry minimal detail about a matter. How much detail they may carry is an attorney setting.

Your preferences

Open Notification preferences (in the Account group of the sidebar).

  • Choose channels per category.
  • Set quiet hours. Critical pages still reach you during quiet hours unless the firm changed that.
  • Choose digests: hourly or daily summaries instead of each message.
  • Add and confirm a paging number for urgent pages.
  • Set out-of-office cover: someone receives your notifications while you are away.

Acknowledgements

Some notifications must be acknowledged. Until someone acknowledges, the escalation continues. Escalation runs shows the pages you were sent; Items that need my acknowledgement is a quick filter.

Escalation chains

The escalation tree decides who is paged, in what order, after how long and on which channels, for legal-judgment escalations, service-level breaches, urgent notices and safety issues. Firms manage chains in Configuration → Notifications.

LegalBook's starting chains page the routed or responsible attorney, then the supervising attorney, then the owner. The firm must activate its own chains for these four before onboarding is complete, and every chain must end at a person who can decide, never at a queue. The required chains can be edited but not disabled.

If a chain runs out with nobody acknowledging, a critical alert goes to the owners and administrators.

Alerts

Alerts collects operational alerts: service levels, operations, quality and deadlines for supervisors; incidents, telephony, integrations, billing, workflows and background jobs for firm administrators; security and privacy alerts for the people allowed to see them. Acknowledge an alert, add notes, resolve it or escalate it. Quiet alerts resolve themselves.

Oversight

Notification delivery log shows what was sent to whom and why, and lets an overseer retry a failed delivery. The log never shows message bodies to people who may not see them.
