What clients can and cannot see
The client-safe view of a matter, the plain-language milestones the firm approves, and what never reaches a client.
For: OwnerAttorneyStaff
The client portal shows a client-safe projection of the firm's records: a separate view built for clients, not the staff record with parts hidden.
What a client sees
- their own cases (and those of people their access covers), with plain-language milestones,
- tasks the firm has asked them to do,
- documents they were asked for, documents they sent, and documents the firm shared with them,
- their messages with the firm,
- their appointments, with what to expect,
- their invoices,
- education content the firm approved.
Milestones in plain language
A matter's milestones appear in the portal only when the firm has given them a client-safe label, in each language. Milestones without one stay hidden. The plain-language status for each matter status is a firm setting.
For example, when a filing's receipt is confirmed, the portal can show that the application was received, in the client's language.
What a client never sees
- internal notes and attorney-only notes,
- QA reviews, findings and scores,
- AI drafts and suggestions,
- privileged or attorney-only material,
- the prospect pipeline, conflict searches and review routing,
- other participants' private information,
- workflow internals and work items.
Safeguards
- A client only reaches records their access covers. Anything else answers not found, and probing is recorded.
- A support session acting on someone's behalf never enters the client portal.
- Document links for clients are minted per person, with that person's reach, and every download is recorded.
